This project is about my home country, which is very fast-developing. It has become a very large economy and holds an essential global position. Our country has its own unique political and economic model. Some advantages make us proud of our citizens, and many flaws that our citizens will complain about. This polity does not allow people to laugh at the government. In recent years, I have seldom seen a satirical illustrations directly depicting our country and government. However, I want to try this kind of subject. I hope our country and government can grow to a level allowing citizens to laugh at their flaws and mistakes. I read the word “giant baby” in the psychological book The Giant Baby Country (which has been banned) by Mr. Wu Zhihong, a famous Chinese psychologist. He used this word to describe the character of many Chinese people, who look like giant babies but has grown into an adult. They still have the original naive omnipotent narcissism, thinking that the world moves with themselves and all errors are caused by others. I think the word “giant baby” and its image can also be used to describe our country and government now, which has strict control over cultural industries such as movies, books, and TV shows, purifying them, removing naked sex, and even puppy love episodes. He is willing to monitor the people and treat boys and girls unequally. He builds a great wall to block many foreign websites and constantly cracks down on various VPNs. However, his thoughts are not progressed with stagnation or even retrogression. He would protect the nationals in times of crisis but sometimes made the people feel like a toy in their hands. I created ten illustrations to represent this giant baby-like country and government. I love and respect my country, which I can ridicule a thousand times, but I don’t allow others to say something terrible.
